(whitest boy alive, wondrous revivals, weddings)
After catching Kings Of Convenience 2 years ago at Esplanade, the opportunity to catch Erlend Oye this time with his side project presented itself again in the form of Juice's 10th Anniversary Party. A much more intimate experience and a lesson learnt along the way regarding gig ethics. You know sometimes when you reach a gig venue, no one dares to go to the front of the stage with everyone else "acting cool" sipping their drinks while standing on the stairs or leaning against the walls. I tell you, once you yourself plucked up the courage to just "heck care" with the whole situation and go to the front, EVERYONE else will follow. Then slowly the latecomers will try to squeeze themselves to the front just by the notion their friends whom are at the front had waved/signalled to them to push ahead. Lucky for these barely legal teens, i was in a "suka hati kau lah" mood or else i'd be giving them the Ash treatment. Other than that, it was a pretty fun gig and the night ended with rounds of bandung, mee goreng and prata.
Ended up in Stomp's webbie. This is what you get when you constantly read their online page regarding mice falling off the ceiling at mcdonalds tampines and other intellectual articles. Btw i swear i've no idea who're the two individuals on the right.
Setlist for the night. It is an art to grab one of these as it requires quick reflexes when the security guy isn't looking. My ma'am too has the same ability considering the number of setlists she's grabbed so far from the gigs she's been to. More snaps of the night below.
Stoned Revivals are one hell of a tight band. Vocally and technically. One of the few local bands that would excite me and my mates along with Tiramisu and of course Serenaide. Although it'll be nice to see Padres too someday if ever they reunite, perform the song Hold Me. I suppose it'll be a miracle if the revivals played Goodil which can be found on the 12 storeys soundtrack. I'll shout out that song whenever me & the gang catch them play again.

Attended a former secondary school classmate's wedding yesterday. The dude in uniform is my friend Asdy. He's the guy in the infamous karaoke video a lucky few got to watch during hari raya over at my place. It felt like it was just like yesterday back in 1997 when we had our first class photo when all the boys were still in shorts and thought that girls were evil (it was only in secondary 2 when our eyes opened about girls thanks to the yellow science textbook mainly chapter 13 that changed our mindset and coined the term "otak kuning"). The girl beside him is also our classmate too till sec 5, Raihan. 11 years on, one by one are being married off and the occasional wedding invitation card could be found in the mailbox. So happy to get a chance to meet up with Asdy on his big day. The ever soft spoken dude and his gesture of personally coming over to his former classmate's homes to deliver the wedding invitation card speaks volumes of his thoughtful nature. Much respect and well wishes to this guy.

Gong Li & The Gig/Geek Boys

circa 16/03/06. from left: Norman Hakim, Rosyam Nor, Jalaludin Hassan.

circa 29/10/08. the same people you know.
In this short space of 2 years, we've been through countless gigs between us together. Some gig misses of ours along the way were quite regrettable namely Muz foregoing Coldplay's gig, them missing out on Album Leaf (very very heartfelt gig experience. going with the ma'am too sets the atmosphere better wink wink), and myself missing out on Saosin. Just for that "7 years" song mind you. But the ultimate sin of a miss right now is us missing out on Kylie Minogue tonight. shit shit shit. It's ok since there's Whitest Boy Alive which is 2 days away to make up for it and Mr 4 Wheeler All Niter isn't going due to saving up some moolah for an upcoming you-know-i-know. Quite understandable but how i wish his ma'am, himself and my ma'am can be there too this Thursday.

Speaking of my very own Gong Li, she's in China again and this time she's there for 3 weeks. It feels like she's off to Chinatown rather than China due to the frequency of her travelling which is getting quite often now. Note to self (and also to you honey if you're reading this haha), China calls costs $3/minute. We're sms-ing instead and making full use of the word capacity allowed in each sms. It's an audacity in itself for the receiver of the call having to bear the calling cost of $2/minute. Can't wait for her to come back and look what she got me & my family on her previous trip. She got my mum a silk nightgown, vintage comb & mirror set, unused hotel toiletries (my mum collects them i don't know why). John Lennon aka my dad got 2 packs of coloured cigs and a tee with a chinese character which spells out Dragon. Baru Dragonforce ni macam. The red rectangular item on the right which she got me is actually a headrest but it's not any other ordinary pillow. It's stuffed with fragrant green tea leaves and you can hear the rustle when you squeeze the pillow. It smells nice and it's really relaxing, very therapeutic i might add, whenever you rest your head on it. There's also another item which she got me in the form of fine polka dot prints but it ain't going to be featured here. Let's just put it in Lil Wayne lingo and say it's something that keeps me "breezy and wheezy". Word.

Logic
During dinner just now my mum talked to me about my nephew, Firdaus. She told me how he fared during his primary one malay language class test which he took a week before his final year exam. From this line onwards, i've to type my story in a mix of malay and english. Sorry.
Well, Firdaus was faced with a question asking what is the "seerti" of ayah. So he had choice
A) bapa
B) abang
And he chose B. My auntie (whom firdaus refers to her as Bonda. old school i know.) was so mad at him for getting such a simple question wrong and asked for his reason of choice. Firdaus plainly said "Abeh bonda panggil ayah, abang."
This shows how children observe their surroundings and parents are a vital example. Thinking how innocent and honest Firdaus is, brought a little smile to my face. A slight uplift considering only heaven knows i'm miserable now. Please take care ok honey?
